The 4500 year old water drainage system of Mohenjo-Daro is still functioning today. (Pakistan)
Director General of Antiquities and Archeology
Manzoor Ahmad said that he realized this during the mid-August rains when the
protective wall outside the stupa at Mohenjo-Daro collapsed after 1,400 mm of
rain fell. So it fell, but they did not
see the water standing anywhere. There
is no water here. We reached here while
running and found that the water has flowed out of this 4500-year-old
drain. There was no intervention of my
team in extracting water from this place, it happened automatically. Yes, it must have happened that when the
water left here, it went out and collected in a compound built a few years ago,
which took us three weeks to remove.
According to Manzoor Ahmed, very little
excavation has been done at Mohenjo-Daro since 1922, 90% remains. Many secrets related to the ancient
civilization are still buried under this earth.
